4NCL

The 4NCL will be holding its first team and individual rapidplay championships for which entries are invited from all interested teams and players. For those of you with long memories, the format we are using is not dissimilar to the now defunct British team lightning championships (held between 1953 and 1992), with the team championship held on the Saturday and the individual championship on the Sunday.
Winners will hold the title of 4NCL Team and Individual Rapidplay Champion respectively for 2010/2011.
The championships will take place on the weekend of 9-10 October 2010 at Harben House, a De Vere venue. More details on the venue can be found at http://www.devere.co.uk/our-locations/harben.html
The tournament is open to any team, whether or not a participant in the 4NCL itself. As with the 4NCL, teams can be existing clubs, new clubs, groups of friends etc.
There is a guaranteed prize fund of £2,000. The entry guidelines can be found here:
http://www.4ncl.co.uk/2010_rapidplay.htm
For a list of entries so far, visit the 4NCL website www.4ncl.co.uk

ECF Counties Rapidplay – a reminder

Dear friends
May I remind you that entries to the ECF Counties Rapidplay (to be held at Wanstead House on Saturday 18th Sept) close on Monday 13th September? In order to assist me in planning for this event could you please give me some indication as to whether your County will in fact be supporting this event with an entry.
Thanks in anticipation of a speedy response.

Under-12 trip to Flanders

Our group of 16 players and two leaders (Victor Cross and Peter Purland) met at St Pancras at 10.00 on Saturday morning to catch the Eurostar to Brussels. We had one player meeting us there as he was on holiday in France. Things did not start auspiciously as the train broke down and we were 45 minutes late in to Brussels. We got started as soon as possible but, inevitably, had to cut down on the time. We were white in round one and, to even up the numbers, had been lent a Fleming. There were some good games but at the end we only held a 10-8 lead with the black pieces to come. Who said that white is an advantage? Victor’s team talk was far more effective whilst Peter gave a talk to the Fleming. With half the games over, the score was 7-2 in our favour and victory was in sight. In fact we went on to win the round 12-6 (and yes our guest won) thus giving victory by 22-14

Clare goes to Paris

Dear all,
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your generosity over the last few months. To have received such support from far and wide has really spurred me on with my training and I hope, as I set off from London tomorrow morning, will inspire me to overcome any obstacles (notably hills!) that lie in wait between London and Paris! My fundraising total to date is £2,278 and with a further £350 pledged brings it up to over £2,600. It would be amazing if I could reach the £3,000 mark, so if you know of anyone who might still like to donate to what I believe is a very worthy cause, please spread the word (www.justgiving.com/clares-tourdefrance) and see what it’s about (www.mndassociation.org). I will try to keep in touch via my blog over the course of the event, and photos will be posted upon my return next week.  So check it out at www.clares-tourdefrance.blogspot.com
