Kenilworth Chess Club and Stapleford Chess Club
Kenilworth Chess Club was chosen for the Club of the Year award. Although it can trace a history back to pre war the club really started in its current format in 1975. It has grown steadily and now fields five teams in the Leamington and District Chess League. The club is active in many cup and rapidplay competions as well. A Club with a warm atmosphere that encourages Juniors (with sponsorship of some to be Junior Members of BCF) and disabled players (with adequate facilities).
The Small Club of the Year award goes to Stapleford Chess Club. Having 6 teams
in the Nottingham League is an excellent achievement for a club that six years
ago had only six members. With three teams of Juniors (containing five players
from the England junior squad) the club should have a bright future. The mixture
of adults and juniors is supported by a Chess coach and the County Schools team
manager. The friendly atmosphere at the club attracts new members to the club
making them a worthy recipient of the award.
