Five of the six finals of the 2002/3 National Club championships were held at Wanstead Library on Sunday 29 June 2003 (the Minor Plate final between Chiselhurst and Alwoodley was played at Syston). The matches were played in a good spirit, giving arbiters Roy Heppinstall and Jeff Goldberg a relatively easy afternoon. After the conclusion of play the trophies were presented by the former Sports Minister Tony Banks, who is a strong supporter of chess in the House of Commons.
