All five games were won by the player with the White pieces, rendering Newark’s winning the toss of crucial significance. Cosham won the first two games to finish but were then pegged back. The match was decided on board 1, where after a scramble leading up to the first time control, Kevin Shutt brought home the point in a rook and pawn ending.

The first round of the competition has almost been completed. Due to unforeseen circumstances Southend Juniors v Kings Head could not play on the date originally agreed, they will be playing on the first weekend in January and will be contacting the relevant parties with the result immediately following the match. The Rainham v Hesperides match also encountered various problems, which an extension to early January could not help. The outcome was decided on the toss of a coin. Newark replaced Hereford in the original first round draw.
