You may have learned of the death of Mitchell Taylor,
long-time Chief Conductor of the Times School Chess Championship. Mitchell had
not been well for some time but was determined to continue organising the
competition as long as possible. His passing has created some temporary
organisational difficulties.
The 2000/2001 Times Schools Championship
will take place and on this occasion may be regarded as a fitting tribute to
Mitchell Taylors memory.
NEW
CONDUCTOR
Richard Haddrell has offered to
control this years event.
The immediate difficulties for me
are:
1. The entries have gone to Mitchells address.
2. I have
no documentation giving contact details of Zone Conductors, copies of
information sent to participating schools, guidance notes on the
conduct/organisation of the event etc.
3. Some schools have not received
entry forms.
Actions taken on the above:
1. Stephanie
Taylor, Mitchells daughter, is putting her fathers papers in order
and will send all appropriate documents to me as soon as she is ready. Entries
held by Stephanie will be passed on to Richard Haddrell.
2. By various
means we are trying to establish an accurate list of Zones and Zone
Conductors.
3. A new entry form is appended. There is no need to return it
if you have already entered.
The start date of the competition will be
delayed. I think the first round is likely to be in November.
URGENT!!- If you are a Zone Conductor or know someone who is, could you
send contact details to Richard: 01892 532361
rjh@sccu.ndo.co.uk
Teams are of six players, who must all be pupils of the
school they represent.
Age limit: Under 19 on the 31st August 2000.
To
encourage younger teams, an age handicap applies.
Enquiries to Richard
Haddrell by phone or email.
