13-24 September, Sibenik, Croatia

Sunday 23rd September – Round 9

Peter Roberson - click for larger imageYesterday (Saturday) was a rest day. The England team took over the local bus service and went into Sibenik, the local town. Armed with directions to the restaurant, the group split up temporarily to explore the old part of town. The girls set off for some serious shopping but in the end rather surprisingly were out-shopped by the Sen brothers. A small party set off for the castle but was over ambitious as there was insufficient time to go inside by the time they had laboured up the rather steep hill. Krishna and Maggie installed themselves in the restaurant with large cups of coffee of course.

At 1 pm the intrepid explorers returned to consume large quantities of fresh bread and antipasti followed by a veritable feast of pasta, fish, meat and pizza. The Channel 4 film crew (Lucy and Wesley) had treated us all to this wonderful lunch and it was a highlight of the week. We took the opportunity of all being together to present our two remaining coaches (Glenn and Thomas) with tokens of our appreciation.

Most of the group returned to the hotel but 3 brave souls (Nitan, Glenn and Anjali) ventured back up the hill to the castle and scaled the heights to reach the glorious views that reward those with stamina and determination.

Today (Sunday) was the final round. Check the results out below. Team score for the day: 3/9.

Last note from Krishna
“Glenn and I would thank the whole team for their great commitment and dedication throughout the tournament and for their excellent behaviour. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for their continual support in helping to ensure the smooth running of the trip. Our particular thanks go to Traci Whitfield and Sohan Sen in helping prepare the written reports and Wesley Pollitt for the photographs.”
