8:57 a.m. The coaching room is silent. None of the Team Mates are around. They are all in a round. Round 9 to be precise. The final round of the tournament. It is happening as I type. I need to get this sent. Fast. And soon. But not so soon that I do not include the Team Mates’ results. It is a delicate balance. Whoops, I nearly went too soon just then! A tricky situation. I’ll do my best – but no promises.
Let’s just back up a little bit. Breakfast today started at 07:00, an hour of the day that only Polly’s RA has seen before (e.g. tennis with the postman). Just not fair. But everyone struggles on, and soon the shuttle service is ferrying the Team Mates to the venue. There is then a mad dash for the souvenir store which is cleaned out of its entire flock of lucky sheep in about 2 minutes. So, Team Mates plus Lucky Sheep take their seats, and the chess begins.
Round 9 (the chess bit):
No commentary, the results speak for themselves. Suffice to say it was an enthralling end to the Tournament. Samuel’s game of course being the last to finish, after a marathon 4 hours! Well done to Victor, winner of the Boys U12 section! Check out the tournament website for final standings and cross tables…

Subject: Re: Good news regarding the Team Mascot
Good morning
I like your ideas on a more sensible/realistic approach to a Gagarin rescue
mission. Would you now also consider heading a government 'Think Tank' on Gagarin
rescue initiatives?
The tower rescue is now finished, the last snail is on the way down:

Shelly had told me about the 'Newbury Snail', very confidentially I can tell you that they are living happily at a secret location:

Is Danny OK about his plane being used? Will there be a loan fee? How much
will the fuel cost, what about insurance etc etc?
What about a low cost, low tech solution - we ask the astronauts on Sky-Lab
to hang a lettuce leaf outside their spacestation to attract Gagarin. Then on
the next shuttle mission he can attach himself to one of those notorious tiles
for the return journey. It could just work!!
Respect
Peter

Interesting Fact #9:
If you checked the Day 6 report having read Day 8’s Interesting Fact (be honest with yourself), you need to get a life - they’re only snails.
