Firstly, I should like to thank everyone that sent me a reply. In all I received 265 replies including 27 from Graders. Given the volume of the response I hope that those of you who provided comments or suggestions will understand if you do not receive a reply. However, rest assured that all of your comments and suggestions will be considered by Dave Thomas and myself.
| Question | Percentage Responding Yes | |
| Response from Graders | Response from Non-Graders | |
| Would you like to see the grading list made freely available on the BCF website? | 56% | 90% |
| Would you like to see the Grading list published on a six-monthly basis instead of yearly? | 19% | 68% |
| Percentage Preferring Each System | ||
| Grading System Preferred | Response from Graders | Response from Non-Graders |
| a) the current three figure BCF grade system and method of calculating BCF grades retained? | 78% | 32% |
| b) the BCF grades changed to four digits without changing the method of calculation? | 0% | 8% |
| c) BCF grades calculated using the Elo method? | 22% | 60% |
As you can see there is a big difference in views between graders and non-graders. Making the grading list available on the website is the one point of consensus and does not pose significant technical problems. Consequently, I will bring proposals to do this (including any budget implications) to the BCF Council Meeting in April. I will give further thought to the other two questions before deciding on a course of action.
