National Chess Library
Official Opening
The
National Chess Library, the third largest public chess library in the
world, was officially opened on Tuesday at the University Centre Hastings
by former Home Secretary, Charles Clarke MP.
The English Chess Federation library now has a permanent home in Hastings,
a town with a long association with the game of chess ...

New Prizes for the British Chess Championships
Liverpool John Moores University Prizes for Excellence at the British
Chess Championships. £100 Best Game Prizes for each of the 11 rounds
of the British Championship. The overall Best Game Prize will receive
in addition the £100 Alexander Prize.
Best achievement by a Merseyside player in the Congress as decided by
the event arbiters: £200, £100.
Best Swindle Prize in the Congress £50.
Best Combination £50.
Details of a further £500 junior prizes will be announced in due
course.
This generous support has been arranged for us by Professor David Robertson
of Liverpool John Moores University.

ECF Board Meeting 7th June
A meeting of the new ECF Board was held on 7th June 2008 with representatives
of the Constituent Units present. Alan Martin was elected to the vacant
Board position of Non-Executive Director. We now have a full-complement
of Directors and so it is business as usual. A report on the Board meeting

The double round day for the Under-12 Championship was erroneously published
as Thursday 7th August. It should be on Sunday 3rd August.
We apologise that negotiations for cheap accommodation have fallen through.

It is a FIDE requirement that "to be included in the FRL or FIDE
Rapidplay Rating list, a player must be a member of a national chess federation
which is a member of FIDE" (FIDE Handbook B.02, paragraph 16.1).
The ECF will only submit a game for FIDE rating if both players of the
game are members of a national federation ...
