REGISTRATION OF PLAYERS

All players in a FIDE-rated event should be registered with FIDE prior to the event. If this is impossible is a particular case the Federation is able to register the player as English on receipt of the rating file.

Please note that the ECF is only able to register players with FIDE as English; should a player wish to register through a foreign federation this can only be done by contacting that federation and complying with their requirements.

STANDARD PLAY EVENTS

  • Swiss system congress and Internal Club competitions
    • Gold or Platinum ECF members are free charge;
    • A Play to Play fee for the event of £10 per player (adult or junior) is playable in respect of ECF Bronze or Silver members or non-members who are registered with FIDE as English;
    • Players registered for FIDE rating purposes with a federation other than England a rating fee (currently £1.50) will be charged per player per event.
  • Leagues are treated similarly to Swiss system congresses with the following two exemptions:
    • In the case of the 4NCL, designated Wildcards will be accepted and their games rated and graded, subject to payment of the £1.50 rating fee per player. This applies to players brought in to play for a single weekend, as defined in the 4NCL rules.
    • In the case of any other league, a player playing only a single game is exempt from the £10 Pay to Play Fee; the FIDE rating fee of £1.50 per player will apply to such players.
  • Scheveningen Events are treated similarly to Swiss system congresses, except that the FIDE rating fee is £2.
  • All-Play-All Tournaments or Matches
    • All England-registered players must be ECF members at Gold or Platinum level;
    • An event charge of £70 per section will apply provided the average rating is under 2301. Higher charges apply to stronger events; for details please contact the ECF Office.

NOTE:

All FIDE-rated Standard Play events are graded by the ECF. There is no separate charge for this.

It is recommended that organisers request the following information on the entry form:

  • Whether the player is an ECF member;
  • If YES:
    • ECF Membership number
    • Level of membership (i.e. Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum)
  • Whether the player is FIDE rated;
  • If YES:
    • FIDE Identification number
    • FIDE registered federation
  • If NO:
    • Confirmation that they are English for FIDE registration purposes

RAPID PLAY EVENTS

FIDE are accepting Rapid Play events for rating on a trial basis, free of charge. In view of this, the events will be treated in the same way as graded Rapid Play events. Specifically:

  • Congresses
    • ECF members at Silver level or above are free of charge;
    • A Pay to Play fee for the event of £7 per adult and £5 per junior is payable in respect of ECF Bronze members and non-members.
  • Leagues and other event types
    • ECF members at any level are free of charge;
    • A Game Fee of £1.25 per result (half-game) is payable in respect of non-members;
  • Junior-only congresses
    • ECF members at Silver level or above are free of charge;
    • A Game Fee of 30p per result (half-game) is payable in respect of non-members;
  • Junior-only leagues and other event types

    • A Game Fee of 30p per result (half-game) is payable in respect of non-members.

In the event that FIDE opts to charge for rating Rapid Play events at the end of the trial period, the ECF’s policy will be reviewed, most likely to bring it into line with the arrangements for Standard Play events.

BLITZ EVENTS

FIDE are accepting Blitz events for rating on a trial basis, free of charge. The ECF does not grade Blitz events. As a consequence, there is currently no charge for the rating of Blitz events.

In the event that FIDE opts to charge for rating Blitz events at the end of the trial period, the ECFs policy will be reviewed.
