Hampshire Congress, 7-9 November 2003

Graham Stuart reports: The Hampshire Chess Association Congress, incorporating the Hampshire Individual Championship was held the weekend 7th November – 9th November 2003 at Eastleigh College, on the outskirts of Southampton.

It was pleasing to see the numbers increase again this year, with 52 entries in total.

This year’s Hampshire Individual Champion was Tony Corkett, who won the title on tiebreak from Dominic Tunks. This is the fifth time Tony has won the Individual Championship, but he still has some way to go though to catch the all time leader, Marshall Thompson. Marshall won the tournament nine times from 1958 to 1977

Hampshire Treasurer Ken Retallack was the popular winner of the Under 125 tournament, after coming so close in previous years.
