Senior Events in 2005

A number of people have asked about forthcoming Senior events in 2005.
All are open to players born before 1 January 1945. The international ones are open to women born before 1 January 1955.

European Senior Championship
25 June to 3 July. 9 round Swiss, 40/2 plus all in 1.
Round 1 at 3pm, all other rounds at 10am.
Venue Kongress Centre in Bad Homburg, Germany. It is fairly close to Frankfurt.
Entry fee 45 Euro. The best hotel offered is 70 Euro per night single. There are others.
E-mail contact or tourist information www.bad-homburg.de

If it is like other such events it will be well-run, with gms at the top, going down to unrated players at the bottom.

British Senior championship for players born before 1 September 1944.
6-12 August. 7 round Swiss FIDE Rated 9.30am daily.
Douglas is a pleasant old-fashioned resort. It is quite different from Port Erin. To minimise the travel costs you should book as soon as possible.

World Senior Championship 27 September to 10 October Italy. Lignano Sabbiadoro. It is on the coast and the nearest place is Rome, but you could do a trip to Venice. This is all the information I have. Since this is 15 days and the event is usually 11 rounds, it probably includes arrival and departure dates and there are two rest days. It is similar to the European Senior, but it is likely more weak Italians will compete.
Paul Byway, Michael Macdonald-Ross and Dave Rumens have already expressed interest in playing. It is some years since we were represented at this event which is often held in Germany.
