— from Bill O’Rourke
Simon Woodcock, senior officer of the Lancashire Chess Association, passed away suddenly on Monday July 17th. Simon had been fighting cancer. He was 54. Simon was known throughout the North West chess scene for his voluntary work as the Blackpool Congress organiser alongside his wife Sandra, and as an arbiter at several events. He was a Lancashire County Open team player and a leading light for Atherton chess club.
A faithful servant of the LCA, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him for his humour, hard work, straightforward speaking and honest opinions.
Simon’s funeral is on Monday July 31st at Howe Bridge Crematorium, Wigan at 11.30am …
