Cork Congress 1st – 3rd April 2011
Congratulations to Simon Williams who won the open after a blitz play-off against Alex Lopez. Both players finished on 5/6, half a point ahead of Colm Daly, Sam Collins, Mark Quinn and Bogdan Lalic.
Bundesliga 9th-10th April
Mickey Adams played for Baden Baden and Luke McShane played for Werder Bremen. In round 14 played on Saturday Mickey beat Luke to help his team to a 5-3 victory which virtually assured they retained their title and he finished with a win against a 2348 to finish with 7.5/9 and a 2822 performance as his team won 7-1 to clinch the title. Luke won with black against a 2510 rated GM to finish with 7.5/13 and a 2594 performance helping his team to secure second place. Luke actually had a strong finish to the season, finishing with 4/5 to recover from a difficult 3.5/8 start
Ravenna International Chess Tournament Lido Adriano 2-10 April
Stewart Reuben scored 5 and Bret Addison 4.5/9. Bret played 2 GMs and 3 IMs including wins against GM Denes Boros and IM Fabio Bruno to leave him on 3.5/4 but he was unable to maintain his early momentum but still finished with a very respectable rating performance of 2298.
First Saturday Chess Tournament Series Budapest, Hungary 2-11 April 2011
Lorin D’Costa is playing in the GM tournament and Isaac Sanders is in the FM A Tournament. After eight rounds Lorin is on 4.5 and Isaac is on 5.5. Isaac currently has a 2218 rating performance.
11th European Seniors Championship Courmayeur 6-14 April 2011
After four rounds Oliver Jackson and Ken Norman are on 3 and Dinah Norman is on 2.5.
Bangkok Open 2011 11th – 17th April 2011
Nigel Short, Mark Ruston, Lateefah Messam-Sparks are playing in the open whilst Andrew Horton-Kitchlew, Peter Darby, David Gates, Mark McCready and Martin Greenwood are playing in the challengers.
