ECF Junior Academy

‘Taster’ Weekend Places – due to three players being unable to attend, there are three places available for a ‘taster’ weekend at the ECF Chess Academy Study Weekend being held in Nottingham at the Park Inn Hotel, Nottingham on 14th (09.30-17.00) and 15th (09.00-16.00) April 2018.

Applicants are invited who have an ECF standard play grade of at 70-160 and are U14 or younger.

The cost is £130 which includes 5 hours of coaching (excluding breaks) each day for students with a titled coach (total 10 hours), text book, equipment and 3 hours (optional) sessions for parents on helping your child to be successful in their chess.

Topics for the weekend (as per the FIDE syllabus):

Saturday –
MAJOR – How to prepare for a game in a big event
MINOR – Essential Pawn Endgames

Sunday –
MAJOR – The Art of Defence
MINOR – More on Defence

IMPORTANT – these topics will be taught at an advanced level not beginner level. Therefore it is essential that students arrive at the weekend with a pre-existing understanding and working knowledge of the topics.

You must be eligible to play for England (i.e. not another country) and not committed to another FIDE Academy. Please email Traci Whitfield on director.juniorchess@englishchess.org.uk to apply with the child’s name, date of birth, SP grade and level of ECF membership (e.g. Gold).
