ECF Chess Academy student Abbey was joint first in the U14 section of the Midlands Junior Chess Championships with 5½ out of 6 along with Finlay Bowcott-Terry. The competition was held over 3 days during Easter week at Kenilworth and was FIDE-rated.
The Academy was delighted to see so many of its students among the winners — Jonah Willow scored 5½ points from six games and won the Under 18 section, Laura Davidson was highest scoring female player on 3 points. Abigail Weersing and Finlay Terry-Bowcott shared first on 5½ points in the Under 14 tournament. Joe Hirst got a clean sweep with 6 points in the Under 11 with Jessica Mellor and Margarita Sanchez highest placed girls. In the Under 9 tournament, Sohum Lohia was first with 6 points.
