— from Matt Bridgeman, Manager of Girls’ Chess
The first ECF North West Girls Rapidplay Championship was a new event to the junior calendar. It was held on Sunday the 11th of September at the Educational Institute in the picturesque village of Arnside, in South Cumbria.
The event attracted a number of strong junior girls, and the games proved hard-fought and close. There were in fact no draws by any of the girls at the event. In the end, England Team player Sharon Daniel proved too strong and came away with a perfect 6/6 score.
Behind Sharon, there was plenty of talent snapping at her heels, and there were particularly strong showings from Milly Kotecha, Agamya Gupta and emerging under-10 player Tarini Jayawarna.
The next all-girl event is likely to be the return of the English Girls Championship, with a Birmingham date to be decided for later this year.
