I was sorry to hear of the passing of Denys Bonner recently in a Exeter Nursing home. I have fond memories of a very strong player who was Somerset Champion for many years and played often on top  board in county matches. These were in the days when A.R.B Thomas would turn out for Devon. Later he formed an important chess composing friendship with Father Cyprian of Downside Abbey. He was a real gentleman and always very approachable. He was also a former Exmouth player, and I think he went to school there in the town. Bob Jones is going to mention him in his WMN chess column which comes out on Saturday. There may be one of his composed chess problems.
