The event was held at Ackworth School (in the Music Room) on Saturday 17th June 2017 – an event organised by White Rose Junior Chess Academy. Ten girls attended and tuition was provided by two ECF accredited coaches — Phil Beckett from Retford and Peter Cloudsdale from York.
Firstly we looked at opening principles, control of the centre, developing pieces and King safety. Next came a session on general endgame techniques, including use of the opposition and various checkmate patterns, as well as King and pawn endings. Some chess puzzles were provided to be solved in groups.
