Golden Lane

The London leg of the National Club Finals (and the quasi-final in the Open Championship) took place at Golden Lane Community Centre, Barbican, London EC1Y 0RN on Sunday 14th July 2013. The results of the matches were as follows:

Open: Hackney 1½ – 4½ Wood Green [details]
Major: Bedford 4 – 1 Farnham [details]
Major Plate: Wood Green 3½ – 1½ Maidstone [details]
Intermediate: Leamington 3½ – ½ Maidstone [details]

I should like to thank Brian Smith, who made all the arrangements for the event in his customary efficient fashion, and Mike Gunn, who found time in his busy schedule to come and present the trophies [pictures below]

I think the Gods must have been conspiring against Louth in presenting them with what proved to be an insurmountable series of problems. However, their opponents Fenton expressed a desire to play the match, rather than being gifted with a win by default as a result of the unusual combination of circumstances. Due to the exceptional circumstances the match has been rescheduled and will now be played on Sunday 25th August.

Cosham & Prescot Knotty Ash were also due to play, but last minute withdrawal of players caused the latter to pull out on Saturday. This match cannot be rescheduled and therefore Cosham are winners by default.

Many thanks as always to Brian Smith for hosting Southern based finals, to David Sedgwick for acting as arbiter on the day, and Mike Gunn for presenting the trophies.
