RIP Adrian Swayne Hollis

Born 2 August 1940, died 26 February 2013.
Adrian represented Oxford in four Varsity matches and played in the British Champonship a number of times in the 1960s. He finished 7th equal in 1961. His last games on Chessbase are from 1968. He represented England in the Anglo-Dutch matches of 1961 and 1967; the World U26 Team Championships of 1961 and 1964; and the Clare-Benedict Team Tournament of 1962.
He was awarded the Correspondence chess grandmaster title in 1976, having won the British title in 1966, 1967 and 1971. He was a noted chess theorist and was consulted by Korchnoi before his 1983 match against Kasparov. He had a distinguished academic career focusing mainly on Hellenistic and Roman poetry, spending all his career at Keble College, Oxford.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday 13 March at 11am at Wells Cathedral. Our condolences to his family.
