We hope to add more details shortly to this brief obituary —
Tony died about one month ago and is to be buried at Mortlake Crematorium at noon on Friday 27th March 2020.
PLEASE NOTE — In view of the latest Government guidance on the Coronavirus situation, Tony’s brother has asked people not to attend the funeral.
Tony, along with the late Andrew Whiteley and Roger Lancaster, created King’s Head Chess Club in the late 1970s. This grew to be one of the foremost London chess clubs, and twice won the National Club Chess Championship.
He was always a player, but better known as an administrator. He was Director of Management Services of the BCF; Treasurer of the SCCU; and Vice President of Middlesex CCA – all at the same time.
Paul Buswell said, ‘He was an excellent organiser, capable, level-headed and always courteous. A gentleman, one of the good guys.’
