The event was started by the Eddie Hughes, MP for Walsall North. Over 65,000 children take part in this national event every year – the biggest junior event in the UK. At our Academy, 23 took part with 20 qualifiers, due to the fact we have children aged 5 to 18 years of age, both boys and girls.
The overall champion at club level was Devan Patel on 19 points. Second place went to Dhiren Bahia and Cameron Rehman, both on 18 points. In third place was Arryan Singh on 17 points – a close call in the last round between Devan, Cameron and Dhiren. The chess was of the highest standard, and we are so proud of them all.
MP Eddie Hughes gave us all a nice surprise and invited the children and parents to the Houses of Parliament for a tour with him – the children are very excited by this news
