Remember, this is a round robin. ENG 50+2 have a fair chance of gaining the bronze medals in this event. The ENG Women’s team have not yet completely won the Women’s 50+ Gold medals, but the only other team Lithuania has 1 point. with only 3 matches remaining.

Personally I have no belief in Tiebreak 2. But clearly Slovakia are highly likely to win the 65+ event, because they beat us earlier on. England 3 are currently ahead of England 2. Round 6 ENG 2 lost to POL Lower Silesia. We have never managed to field a Women’s 65+ team in this event.

We have now played four rounds. The scores in the 50+ Championship are somewhat skewed. It is a 10 team Round Robin. The arbiters have arranged the pairings so teams from the same country are paired in the early rounds. This particularly affects England as we have four teams in the competition. The 65+ has 18 teams, thus this effect has not happened.
50+
Each match is scored 2 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss. Each game is 1 for a win, 0.5 a draw and 0 for a loss
1. Slovakia – 8/8 – 11.5
2. England 1 – 8/8 – 16
3. England 2 – 6 – 11
5. England Women – 4 – 7
16. England 3 – 0 – 2.5
England 1 results so far
Mark Hebden – 3/3; John Emms – (Captain) – 3/3; Keith Arkell – 4/4; Glenn Flear – 3/3; Chris Ward – 3/3 (of course, all five are GMs)
England 2 results so far
Graeme Buckley – 1/1 (he only arrived after round 3); Stephen Dishman – 3.5/4; Richard Holmes – 2/3; Robin Crocker – 2.5/3; Robert Noyce – 2.5/4
England Women (placed 5th currently)
Susan Lalic – 2.5/4; Sheila Jackson – 1/4; Ingrid Lauterbach – 0.5/3 (Captain); Petra Fink-Nunn – 2/4; Natasha Regan – 1/3 (her fourth round game was quite exceptional and should be scrutinised)
England 3
Jonathan Hill – 0/4; Haran Rasalingan – 2/4; Paul Dupre – 0/4; Mark Hogarth – 0.5/3 (unfortunately for reasons totally out of his control, his board was defaulted round 1. Colin Costello was due to play, but he is very ill and we wish him as speedy and complete a recovery as is possible)
65+
1. Slovakia – 8/8
2. England 1 – 6 (indeed, Slovakia beat England 1)
13. England 2 – 3 (we beat Wales 3-1)
15. England 3 – 3
I will give an update of the English 65+ results another day. The first team includes GM Dr John Nunn and, making a welcome return to playing for England, GM Tony Kosten. He has been registered for France for many years.
