Roy Zhang
Roy is 15 years old and learnt the rules of chess from a school classmate when he was 8 years old. Although he has other interests and hobbies, he has always passionately regarded chess as the most enriching and rewarding. He would like to thank all those who have supported him in his chess endeavours, as well as his school, which has allowed him to improve his standard through experience in many international events.

He attends Reading School in Reading, Berkshire.
Anthony Zhang
Anthony is 11 years old and learnt the rules of chess from his elder brother Roy (left) at the age of 7. He is the 2013 English Youth Chess Champion for 11 years old. He played in the U10 section at both 2011 and 2012 World Youth Chess Championships and is delighted to have the opportunity to play the 2013 Olympia. He has been invited to play in the U12 at 2013 World Youth. He is a pupil at St Paul’s C of E Junior School in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Kumar Dixit
I got my first ECF grade in July 2010. I am a member of the Camberley Chess Club and would like to thank everyone there for all their generosity, guidance and tremendous support; in particular John Upham. I would also like to thank the Director of Junior Chess, Phil Ehr for this opportunity.

I attend Salesian College in Farnborough, where I am the Chess Captain of the College.
Jake Liang
Jake qualified U11 England Squad in 2011. He won U12 England Closed Chess Championship at Yateley Manor in 2012; 1st= U12 National Junior Squad Championship in 2012; 1st= U12 London Junior Chess Championship in 2012. He played U13 WSCC 2012 in Romania. Jake is lucky to have chances to learn chess from IM Mike Basman, Sainbayar Tserendorj & IM Yang-Fan Zhou.

He attends Hampton School.

Rohan Bansal Yang-Jian Zhou
At age 6 I started to play chess, and enjoyed playing chess a lot. In 2011 I won the British U11 championships. In 2012 I came joint first in the U12 Junior Grand Prix. However, there is much for me to improve. I would like to thank my family for their support and also would like to thank Ray Cannon who was my first coach and Whitgift School for their consistent support.

Zheming Zhang
Zheming won British U8 and U9 titles in 2010 and won the best U9 prize twice at the UK Chess Challenge Terafinals. He also won the England U11 trial in 2012 and became a member of the National Junior Chess Squad. He played for England at the European Youth Chess Championship and the World Youth Chess Championship in 2012. He would like to thank Tim and Abi Adams, Paul Bielby, IM Jonathan Hawkins and IM Yang-Fan Zhou, as well as the NJCA and the NCCU, for their encouragement and guidance.

Theo Slade
Theo Slade
Theo started playing chess at the age of 6 and immediately fell in love with the game. He won his first trophy when he was 7 and finished runner up in the British U8 Championships in 2009. He made his debut for the Cornwall senior team when he was 10, the youngest player to do so since GM Michael Adams, more than 30 years ago. He qualified for the National Chess Junior Squad whilst an U10 which has enabled him to play in Holland, the Czech Republic and Belgium. He has also represented the ECF in Austria, France and Greece and captained the England U12 team to victory in the Stokes Cup. In 2012 he travelled to Guernsey with GM Nick Pert and, despite being the youngest and lowest ranked player in the Open, he scored 3.5/7 and won the Most Brilliant Game Trophy for his last round win. He recently secured his first draw against an International Master, Jack Rudd. Theo would like to thank his Mum and Dad for travelling the length and breadth of the country and Dr. Dave Regis, his coach, for his constant encouragement and enthusiasm. He attends Shebbear College in Devon.

IM Adam Hunt
Adam became an International Master in 2000, and has since obtained two Grandmaster norms. He is a full-time chess teacher, working at Woodbridge School in Suffolk. He has taken the England team to two previous U16 Olympiads in Turkey and has also coached at numerous World and European events. He has just had his first book ‘Chess Strategy Move by Move’ published and is the brother of England’s strongest female player, Harriet Hunt.
Coach (England 2)
GM Gao Rui
Gao Rui started as a chinese chess player, but then switched to chess aged 12. He became an International Master aged 16 and a Grand Master aged 20. He finished 2nd= in the Hastings Masters 2012/13. He has represented China in numerous international events, including the World Junior U20 Championships 2012, and is a player for the Chong Qing team in the Chinese league.
