EYCC – Day One report II

This entry is part 4 of 14 in the series EYCC2016

— from FM Charles Storey

Arushi was paired against a fellow England player some 300 points higher, and with Black had a tough ask. A complicated positional game developed, with her opponent eventually getting the better of her.

Shlok played an ungraded Russian, who seemed to play very well for an ungraded player, but Shlok at just 7 years old created good tactics and outplayed his opponent in the complications.

Anisha played fantastically, in the style of Mikhail Tal … using the Initiative in a very mature manner and beating a player rated 300 points higher than herself.

Jake, playing against a considerably higher rated seed, found himself in a highly specialised, tempo sensitive position, and had a few opportunities to take advantage, which were not entirely easy to find. His opponent put up good resistance and went on to win.
