International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day – March 8th, 2022 – is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality – https://www.internationalwomensday.com/

As part of the work the ECF is doing to support women and girls playing chess, the following events are scheduled —
ECF Women’s Norm Event 2022 organised by Agnieszka Milewska (ECF DoWC) from 7th April to 11th April 2022 at the London Mindsports Centre
1st She Plays To Win International 2022 organised by Lorin D’Costa from 7th April to 11th April 2022 at the same venue – the London Mindsports Centre
The English Women’s Championships from the 19th May to the 22nd May 2022 at the Holiday Inn Kenilworth-Warwick

In addition, the England Women’s Team on Lichess is captained by Jovanka Houska and can be found here – https://lichess.org/team/england-women – including full details of upcoming events. We have an amazing team, including Jovanka Houska, Lawrence Cooper, Rayelynn Posadas, Jo Hutchinson and Agnieszka Milewska, and we focus on connecting English women and girl players on this platform. The club is very well subscribed and runs a regular schedule of weekly events, with some major events planned.

Also — She Plays To Win is a UK Girls Chess Project led by the England Women’s Coach, IM Lorin D’Costa, to try and encourage more girls to participate and learn chess in a fun environment. This involves FREE 30-minutes training in the weekly girls’ group, and a tournament on the Lichess server afterwards. This is open to all girls in primary, secondary or university (under 28) regardless of chess level or experience. SPTW is also doing live events – for example a SPTW Secondary Girls Squad at the Golders Green Rapidplay, and the plan is to expand the live events as and when permitted – https://www.sheplaystowin.co.uk/
