NCA Centenary Grandmaster Tournament

Top-level chess is underway in Nottingham where invited Grandmasters take on some of England’s best young players, including the cream of Nottingham’s chess talent. This special tournament celebrates NCA’s centenary since its foundation and is the strongest tournament to be held in the County since at least 1996. Overseas grandmasters from Ukraine and Netherlands have joined battle with Leicester GM Mark Hebden.  They will face strong competition from Nottingham’s own IM Jonah Willow and FM Ankush Kandelwal, who are both seeking title norms. Some of England’s other young stars will also compete with titled masters from Poland, Ireland and Sweden.

You can see the full field with ratings and pairing for each round on https://chess-results.com/tnr831265.aspx?lan=1&art=0. The tournament is taking place in the city centre at the Nottingham Mechanics Institute. Alongside the international event, a parallel tournament is taking place at the same venue for ten of our best local teenage players.  They will be competing to win their own competition, and will also benefit from playing and analysing their moves alongside the top masters – a great opportunity to enhance the standard for our wealth of Nottinghamshire young talent.

You can follow the play each day via Chess.com, Lichess.com, Chess24.com or via a series of YouTube videos showing highlights of the best games each day, with commentaries from national chess coach and International Master Andrew Martin, assisted by Tournament Director IM Tim Wall.
