British Chess Championships 2024

The 2024 British Chess Championships will take place in Hull from Thursday 25th July to Sunday 4th August. This will be the 110th British Chess Championships in a series which has run almost unbroken since 1904 and a welcome return to Hull, which last hosted a full British in 2018.

Chess events will be taking place at two Hull city centre locations – The City Hall and the DoubleTree by Hilton.

There will be a full programme of Championship events and tournaments over the 10 days of the Championships in a similar format to previous years, together with the usual bookstall, junior coaching, and live commentary from the venues. There will also be an extensive social chess programme, with a series of chess-related events at the venues and in and around the historic city of Hull.

The ECF would like to thank various Hull organisations for their support to this year’s British Championships, including Hull City Council, Hull Culture and Leisure, Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, and Hull and East Riding Chess Association. We are also hoping to have support from the Chess Trust and John Robinson Youth Chess Trust as in previous years.

We are also pleased to announce that the ECF has been asked to run this year’s International Glorney Cup, which we have decided to stage from 23rd to 25th July (i.e. immediately before the British Championships) at the Canham Turner Building in Hull University.
