Thanks to generous support from the John Robinson Youth Chess Trust, there are a total of 20 bursaries available for players under the age of 18 entering the 2019 Northumbria Masters, which is being held on August 23rd-27th at the Novotel Newcastle Airport, the event’s superb new venue in Newcastle upon Tyne.
All three sections (Masters, Challengers (Under 2050) and Major (Under 1825) are FIDE-rated, and the Masters is a strong international 9-round Open Swiss with opportunities for GM, WGM, IM and WIM norms.
There are a total of 10 bursaries for players in the Masters, and 10 for players in the Challengers or Major. To be eligible for a bursary, players should be resident in England. Players receiving a bursary will be reimbursed their entry fee (£60 for the Masters, or £40 for the Challengers/Major) at the tournament. The bursaries will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
